King of the James Race 11/8

Post by JDzielak »

RVA's own run, bike, kayak triathlon. Additional details HERE!

We need safety boaters for the kayak portion. If you want to look almost this cool and get some swift water rescue practice please post up to volunteer.

If you don't have your own equipment we can help. Don't know how to rescue? We'll have at least one SWR certified instructor on hand to help you out. Also, this is a great way to be part of the race if you cant run or bike (like me)!

And... if anyone has an XL dry suit I could borrow that would be pretty awesome too! Maybe someone racing? I might be willing to let someone borrow a green boat in exchange.

Yes! The plan is to meet at 14th street at 8:00 am to set shuttle and be at Reedy by 8:30. We'll have a quick safety meeting and head down to our respective spots.

Has anyone done this race before? I'm thinking I'm going to give it a go as part of a team.

This is the inaugural running of the race...looks like a good time and I've heard that they are expecting a significant turnout (enough that they had to get insurance). I'm going to give it a go. Good luck!

I'm getting excited. I did the kayak portion of the New River Trail Challenge in 2013 and 2014 and was looking for something a little closer with a little more gnar. I just hope there aren't floods of inexperienced kayakers thinking they can bump down the Lower in a rec boat.

Seems like the parking/logistics situation would be better managed if they based the event at Pony Pasture where there's better parking and bathroom facilities but I guess it's not the right trails up there. I suppose you can't have everything.

I'm also interested to see how the individuals manage the bike-->kayak transition. It takes me 30 minutes to get into my immersion gear! :P

Jon - you still need help

I need to be at Pony Pasture for a SWR class later in the morning. What time do you think things will wrap up with the kayak portion of the race?
