4/30/11 Never Forget
When a tragedy unfolds, do you think it's ethical to ask the unwilling participants uncalled-for questions? Do you think you could walk or swim(like in a dam for instance) in those same shoes.?
Do you even own shoes? Shoes, aka landtreads, are sometimes irrelevant; I should know since I was there. Were you there?
If a question begets an answer, I will ask you this: why would a person choose to run a dam? Is it because they have street smarts? One wonders, err ponders more often, who cares right? Perhaps they know gang signs...thinking about street cred...... I think an astronaut snowboarder once said “because it is theirs”.
The beginning of the day began at the top of Grumman, even though we started at pony pasture a tad bit earlier. You know the James, this level has a comorbity of disgust, a texuture of mud that brews and mixes with sticks and logs. Take that and add the churning sewage overflow into a brown described by some as looking like “doo-doo”--a proper taxonomy in the science biz. If manufactured by Cambells the cliassification would have been chunky in can form.
At 11 foot, Grumman is a tricky rapid. Considering what I thought the outcome was going to be and what actually happened I think we may have been incredibly lucky. Seeing Brett Micheals, DJ Jazzy Jeff, and CC Deville getting totally destroyed in the dam hole downstream, I was expecting the worst.
And then they all lived happily ever after, boatless, on a magical island where dreams come true.

CC Deville recovered his boat this morning.
Generally, I think that if I have the opportunity to paddle, and I've got something else to do or I feel like I shouldn't go for some reason, then I force myself to go and I always have a great time. So, I guess when in doubt -- Go, Paddle. -- Tommy Hilleke
