8/20/11 – Falls Race / 4th Annual HW Party at Triple K Ranch

Post by Dave K »

The 4th Annual Housewarming Party at my home in Friendsville is the weekend of 8/20/11 this year. If you’re reading this (and can follow the guidelines below), you’re invited. This is in conjunction with the Ohiopyle Falls Race on Saturday (Lower Yough).

If you’re coming up, be sure to bring some tasty things to eat. A few bucks for the honesty jar would be much appreciated.

If you’re running the LY, Cheat, etc. on Saturday or Sunday, please post below.

I [s]MIGHT[/s] am going to be up there Friday to boat something.

Thanks for all of the help and support and I hope you can come.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Boater relations in town are still (and probably will be forever) strained. This winter, the release schedule on the Upper Yough was challenged by Deep Creek landowners. This motion was defeated - largely by the Town of Friendsville. The releases on the Upper Yough and easy access granted to us by the Town of Friendsville are privilages, not rights and are something that we need to help maintain.

There’s not a lot we can do to make things better with the townspeople but there are plenty of things we can do to make them worse. A few ways to be a part of the solution when you’re staying at the Triple K:

* Spend a few bucks in Friendsville.
* If you’re sleeping in your car, you must be parked in the driveway
* You can only park in front of my property along the street by the river or in the driveway. If all of the spots are taken, please park on Maple St. (by Wilderness Voyagers).
* If you’re sleeping in your tent, please set it up in the back yard behind the house so as to have minimal impact on the neighbor’s view shed.
* Please use one of the bathrooms inside the house.
* Be extra nice to everyone you see in town.
* Try to have a minimal impact on the traffic on Water St.
* Change clothes in the garage or in the house.
* Gear needs to be hung / stored in the garage and not hung off the porch rail, fence, your vehicle, or laid in the yard for any period of time.
* In general, anything you can do to make it look like less of a gypsy camp is good ( ) and anything you do to make it look like more of a gypsy camp is bad. ( )

If you see someone not doing what I’ve asked, realize that it has an impact on access for the Upper Yough. Feel free to explain the situation to them and ask them to act responsibly.

 Just in case it helps with your decision making process, I WILL be up there Friday and WILL be running something IV-V'ish. With the precip forecast, I'm thinking there may be options: Lower Big Sandy, Top Yough, Bear Creek, etc. At the least, I'm hopeful that we may get an above normal UY level.

Plus, I'll need some help unloading the trailer load of goodies I'm delivering to the Triple K --->
Generally, I think that if I have the opportunity to paddle, and I've got something else to do or I feel like I shouldn't go for some reason, then I force myself to go and I always have a great time. So, I guess when in doubt -- Go, Paddle. -- Tommy Hilleke

I will be there on Friday, hopefully early enough to paddle.

I am in Pittsburg and have my creek boat 8)
Envelope – Free stationary taken from the Marriott while on a business trip.
Snowflake address label – sent to me free and had to be used up.
Stained glass stamp – It was more then three feet away from me when I decided to get them so you know I didn’t see them clearly
Butterfly and Sunflower stickers on the back – Also free and required because the glue on the envelope was so old it no longer stuck.

For those who don't know, he's ALMOST as famous as Jackie!

Jackie and I are doing the LY on Saturday. We have 11:00 am permits.

Just wanted folks to know that this was not a UY only weekend.

If I could get Kinker Press to sponsor me then, yes, I would do the Falls.

Wade, I'm going to have a LARGE orange Burn so you can now put as big of a "KPI" sticker on my boat as you do on Jug's.

Even though no one makes me up a spreadsheet anymore, yes, I do know the UY is running.

You do know the UY is releasing Friday, right? I guess you don't get the same spreadsheet that I don't get anymore, too. >>>

'Sides, I gotta run the LY on Saturday so I don't have to walk back to Lynchburg on Sunday.

Dear Mr. Dave K,
Thank you for your most gracious offer. KPi is always looking for the brightest new stars in paddling.
In keeping with that, our Sponsorship Committee is presently in negotiations with Jackie's Agent,
regarding advertising space on Jackie's Burn. 8) After the success of the recent "Paddle with Jackie" tour,
I'm sure you will understand our desire to sign Jackie to our stable of PRO Paddlers.
Warmest regards,
Han D. P. Addler
KPi Sponsorship Chairman
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming....WOW What a ride! . . . . . Trying to live up to this, Priceless. As long as you have good insurance!

Sue and I will be up LATE fri night(read early sat morning). Maybe someone would be kind enuff to keep a parking spot open for our late arrival? As to paddling plans; I'm hoping for a pro move like an early trip on the Lower Big Sandy or Top Yough followed by an Upper Yough run. Sunday I'm down with most whatever. See youse soon.
Have you swam with your kayak lately?

Sounds like a weekend is shaping up... Wish someone made me a spreadsheet telling me when it was time to paddle.

Looking at arriving East sometime after labor day. Trying to get the bulk of the paddling in with another UG-UY-UG round the 9-19. May have to take off the weekend of the 24th. A possible RF stop the weekend of Oct. 1 before heading South then West....

Bout that time of year to start the cross country marathon....
