O.C.T 1/1 New Years Day Maury at Rockbridge Baths

The Maury below Rockbridge Baths is currently too low and I don't expect that to change by New Years Day.
HOWEVER, the James at Balcony Falls has plenty of water and as of this writing is still rising so let's keep an eye on it as a plan B.
It's still a little far out but a current forecast for Glasgow on Monday is calling for a high of 48, mostly cloudy, and with westerly winds (mostly behind us) peaking at 9 mph. (9 mph in Glasgow means they should be less than 45 mph in the gorge.) (I'm kidding.)
Stay tuned if interested!

Thanks Ken! Doing my river dance for some New Years luck.

Got four paddlers interested in going, myself included in that count.

As of Saturday night the Maury is headed toward "too low". I've run it at its current level and had a good day but it's likely to drop more by Monday. Balcony Falls on the James is currently running around 2,400 cfs combining the Buchanan and Buena Vista gauges. I consider 2,000 cfs to be ideal and it's headed that way.
It will be chilly. Probably low to mid 40's with winds out of the west at 10 mph.
I'm thinking Balcony meeting at the Glasgow ramp at noon. All are welcome. I'd like to hear from you though so if anything changes I can try to reach you.

So do you mean ”too low” for you? Because that must mean there is about a garden hose worth of water running

I've run it down to 3/4 of a garden hose but I don't have a beater kayak on nor and inner tube in the car!

Balcony at noon at the Glasgow boat ramp is confirmed as a "go".

Sorry for the late reply, not sure if I’m sick or it’s just my allergies freaking out. I’ve been down two days, so to be safe I will not be joining the group tomorrow. I think they are going to hit Richmond, since it’s closest to home for us. Sorry!

Everyone have fun and enjoy kicking off the new year on a beautiful river!
