G Fest 2010
Thanks to Dave for hooking it up with a new great campsite and a good time with friends. Had a great time playing it up on the Lower on sat, and sunday got to run the upper. Thanks Sejal for the great lines on the upper. I can't wait to get up there with you guys again. And once again thanks to all the pro shuttlers that make things so much easier.

Thanks to all that helped bring it together! My first Gauley Fest has me a bit too tired for a trip report... tells you how much fun it was!
Thanks Stan for the Big Rubber on the Lower Gauley Friday, to KessmanN and Brandon for getting the camping straightened out and again to Lee, Ken and Alicia for reminding me of the lines on the NRG Sat and Sun. Looking forward to my hard boat experience on the LG in October!!

Envelope – Free stationary taken from the Marriott while on a business trip.
Snowflake address label – sent to me free and had to be used up.
Stained glass stamp – It was more then three feet away from me when I decided to get them so you know I didn’t see them clearly
Butterfly and Sunflower stickers on the back – Also free and required because the glue on the envelope was so old it no longer stuck.

Great job on the camping and shuttles and good times one and all, with a big shout out to Kessman for once again putting it all together. Guy and Greg, thanks for the great lines on friday on the LG, they were good and fresh for my sat run as well, even if I did end up swimming (big difference in a borrowed playboat). All in all a stellar weekend
Terrific trip, Thanks Dave for the coordination and showing me the lines down the Lower G and for encouraging the raft trip on the Upper. I had a great three days of boating (NRG on Saturday).
Thanks to Justin for guiding the raft on Sunday...what a great river.
Thanks to the cooks for great food and to everyone for a great time boating and camping....see you next year....but hopefully sooner.

I ended up doing a day trip on Friday for the Lower Gauley and it was great! It was my first time on the lower. Thanks to Ken and Alicia and everyone else who helped me with the lines. Ken and Alicia have been great guides on first time runs twice for me now, resulting in clean runs for me on the NRG last year and the Lower Gauley this year. Can't wait to get back on it again soon. big thanks to Dave for all the organization and the lines + sick boof rock on Friday! Thanks also to Tolyho for the ride out and shuttle services to the put in (despite almost running the car out of gas at the bottom of the gorge....
) Glad to hear everyone else had good days on Saturday and Sunday - I was on the NRG Saturday afternoon somewhere behind the big group and climbing at Summersville lake on Sunday - great weekend all around!
Thanks to DaveK for organizing the weekend and reserving the campground. It was great to see everyone out there! Thanks to Guy and Greg for the lines on the LG - love this run and can't wait to go back. I had a fun, relaxing run down the NRG Sat with everyone and got to catch up w/ JDaddy getting down at Lollygag. Big apologies to Luke for getting him shafted out of paddling Sunday only to end up going myself. On Sunday, Big Mike hatched a late plan to take a relative newbie down the Middle Gauley and check him out. If ready, he would join us and MegMags on the LG down to Swiss where Mike's truck was pro-shuttled by PeterL. We ended up doing a half flow read-n-run down the Middle with lots of rescue practice for the newbie. The reduced flow and available time kept us from continuing down to Swiss. So we took out at Peter's Creek and worked a couple shuttle poaches to get Mike to Swiss and me back to Mason's Branch. Big Thanks to Charlie Walbridge and his wife for my ride back to Mason's Branch. It was a great weekend and I'm stoked looking forward to the next time I make it up there!
Best quote: "There are only two rapids on this river {LG}, the first one and last one; everything in between is read-n-run class III." Thanks Guy!
Most memorable image: Watching Guy give the one finger salute in the runout of the first ledge on the NRG and promptly flipping.
Favorite meal: Pies-n-Pints Friday night.
Least favorite moment: My read-n-run line into the hole @ Lower Mash. Ooops... Gurgle... gurgle...

Generally, I think that if I have the opportunity to paddle, and I've got something else to do or I feel like I shouldn't go for some reason, then I force myself to go and I always have a great time. So, I guess when in doubt -- Go, Paddle. -- Tommy Hilleke
The undercut/hole? Glad your ok, watched a boater swim under it from one end tother a while back, wasn't pretty.slo2rol wrote:Least favorite moment: My read-n-run line into the hole @ Lower Mash. Ooops... Gurgle... gurgle...
