Mangles Proposal Lower Gauley Trip 10/16-17

Mangles Proposal Lower Gauley Trip October 16-17
“Return to the Scene of the Crime” :D
Formally known as the Lower Gauley First Timers Trip

Giggles and I will be coordinating a trip on the Lower Gauley Oct 16-17.
We are planning on staying at Summersville Lake Retreat Campground
and we will finalize that this weekend. Details will follow next week.

This trip was started as a first timers trip and we hope to continue in that tradition.
If you are a first timer and are interested, contact one of us (contact info at the end),
please don't just show up.
We have already had some interest from some first timers and to be able to accommodate
them and any more, we need some LG Veterans to join us also. So if you feel comfortable
on the LG and would like to help a “new to the LG” paddler, please let us know also.
We would like to make this as safe a trip as possible and will have to limit the number of
first timers if we don’t have enough veterans. Thanks for your help!

Also, this being the Anniversary of the Mangles Proposal, we’re encouraging any
Paddling couples that would like to take the next step to join us for this trip.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming....WOW What a ride! . . . . . Trying to live up to this, Priceless. As long as you have good insurance!

I just got back from rafting the upper Gauley this weekend, and i'm ready to hit the LG in the hard boat. Let me know if you have enough safety to accommodate.
Hang on baby Jesus, this is gonna get bumpy.

We will be camping at Summersville Lake Retreat Campground.

Sejal and I will be going up on Friday Night, getting there late, 11pm/Midnight.

Saturday is also Bridge Day, so you will want to make sure your not coming
through that area in the morning. If you come in on 60 you should be fine.

We will meet at 10am at the campground.
Things are starting to shape up, but we could use a few more vets.

Still no couples have signed up...........

Thanks,
Wade

Mangles - I'd love to join you guys for some more Gauley action, but that's the weekend of our big family camping trip. Have fun!!!
Generally, I think that if I have the opportunity to paddle, and I've got something else to do or I feel like I shouldn't go for some reason, then I force myself to go and I always have a great time. So, I guess when in doubt -- Go, Paddle. -- Tommy Hilleke

it saddens me to say this, but i will no longer be able to attend the LG First Timers Mangles Proposal extravaganza on the 15/16th. I'm getting too far behind on work, and no work means no money which means no purchase of a creeker this fall.

Hope everyone has a great weekend, and I'll see everyone soon (esp if the rivers flood again)

Only ran it once? Weren't you the one rescuing gear and swimmers on the Lower G three Sundays ago?

Sounds like veteran status to me.

Hi all,

The scouting mission for the Lower Gauley went well on Saturday.
We put in at Wood's Ferry and enjoyed the warm up before Koontz Flume.
With that said Wade and I decided We will be putting in at Wood's Ferry ( Not Woodall Shoals, Dave  )

We will be meeting and organizing Shuttle at 10 am at Summersville Lake Retreat
If you plan to come up on Saturday you can meet us at Swiss take out at 11am ( the $3.00 pay lot) Just remember it is Bridge day :)

We have the " Island" reserved Sites 47-51
http://www.summersvillelakeretreat.com/SLR-Map.pdf
Just tell the office that you are camping with the Kinkers, Camping is $12 per night.

Mangles are planning to have breakfast at camp and dinner out on Saturday.

We plan to paddle the Lower Gauley both days.

Looking forward to seeing you all this weekend. :D
