OCT Appomattox Sat 3/7
At the moment the Appomattox level and forecasts are bouncing all over the place. If you're interested in this trip, please let me know. I should have a pretty good idea of whether this trip will run or not by lunchtime on Friday. I'm looking for at least 1000cfs on the Matoaca gage. 2000 would be better!
This is a very scenic section that feels remarkably remote. We almost always see bald eagles. Six significant rapids, with the last two being class 3+ (easy to sneak or walk). In between are tons of little class 2 read and run channels. The last rapid is NEW since the downstream dam was removed, and it is FUN! I hope the water cooperates. If it doesn't, I'll announce some kind of Plan 2.

*IF* we get the water I'm thinking maybe 10:30 at the takeout? I am flexible if someone needs another time though.
The takeout is a right where 36 crosses the river: 699 Fleet Street.
A leisurely trip at a lower level would take around 3.5 hours with plenty of time to surf and scout.

As a Class 2 paddler you will probably want to walk the first and last rapids (both easy to scout and decide), and you would take the sneak line on Target Rock. It's totally worth coming along though - most of the trip by mileage is scenic class 2 stuff. That said, I really don't see us getting the water for this. I'll decide when I see the forecast tomorrow... if it doesn't happen this weekend I WILL run an Appomattox OCT on the next weekend that it runs.

Appomattox OCT Saturday 3/7 at 10am
Class 3, approx 6.5 miles and 3 hours
Meet at 699 Fleet St (where 36 crosses the river)
If this is your first time, consider coming a little early and we can walk up the trail from the takeout to scout the last 3 rapids.
Please let me know if you are coming. Thanks
