Sa 1-11-9, Goshen Pass, lower water, first-timers

I write to you today because I swam twice on my first trip through Goshen Pass. I know what you're thinking, that I was humbled at the Kitchen and Corner, where beat downs are supposed to happen to a first-timer. It's worse than that; I walked those two. But it still managed to be a great day on the...

Sounds good to me! I'll portage the kitchen and corner. My portage skills are still sharp.

I haven't been to the ledges, but I'm figuring that if I head upstream on 39 I'll see boats and people. Please let me know if its any trickier than that.

Something III-ish on Saturday?

mmm, rain.

I'd like to get out on Saturday, but none of that big scary stuff. I'm rusty, I won't try anything bigger than a solid III.

I'm thinking maybe Balcony, Upper James, Bullpasture ... there seem to be a lot of possibilities.

Gents -- The gear borrowing has not gone well. We thought UVA Rec had whitewater boats to rent, but they don't. Right now we're waiting to find out if Alex can rent a spray skirt for his rec boat. Shannon, thanks for offering the loaner gear, but with the weather predicted for tomorrow I think I wou...

Hey Shannon / others -- My friend Alex and I are going to try to make it down on Saturday. He's just starting out and we're still working on finding him some gear to borrow, but I'll let you know if we can make it as soon as we know. Speaking of borrowing gear ... is there anyone going (or in Cville...

I will take a look at the AW page for the Gorge and make an informed decision regarding my abilities this weekend. Any other rivers on your mind I should check out? It's been a long dry summer since I paddled with you, but I'm all full of confidence and excitement after taking my new (used) boat out...

Wallace, I am here, kinda. I was about to post when my buddy backed out for work :( His car can make it in the mountains. Mine can't :( :( Also, I can't hang on the lower G. I'm not even sure if I'm ready for the NRG at low water. :( So I've been waiting to see (a) if there's any other interest in [...

Moormans is headed up

no really, it is !!!! via a listserve I read a visual of 1 ft at the Millington Rd bridge, but I would have expected the USGS gauge to be higher. In any case it's rising -- if it gets around 5 ft (USGS) I'd like to run it this afternoon. Get back to me if you'd like to wait and see. Brian 4 three 4 ...

total newb?

Hey YOAD-- My friend and I would like to run the upper. He's done an intro course on flatwater, but this would be his first river trip and he has a rec boat. I've been ww kayaking for a few years and can watch after him. Depending on the shuttle situation I might stay on for the lower. What do you t...

Pipeline of Lower J ?

I'm itching to paddle, and my boat's already strapped to my car. Anyone want to play at pipeline or run the lower? Is there anything at pipeline at this level? I could be at 14th st a little before 5, or anytime after.
