PA TRIP - Release weekends

Post by Rockdoc79 »

Heading up to PA for some paddling on the Lackawaxen (Friday) and Lehigh (Saturday). Healthy releases each day and there seems to be a lot of water for other rivers. If anyone is interested, I can give some beta on each. Drop me a message.

I've heard the Lackawaxen was a pretty hairy run. Y'all be careful up there.

We have company comping into town this weekend, but will be heading up to the Lehigh next Sat. If you end up making the trip two weekends in a row let us know.
Have a great time this weekend, and be safe!

Wallace what section of the Lackawaxen are you looking at. I looked at it on AW and it looked to be just II-III+ stuff. Am I looking at the right section?
Kayak-$1000 dollars...........Gas for the shuttle $60 dollars..........Watching your friends get munched by a bus-sized hole.......PRICELESS.

 Yeah I was going to say! Not too bad a section class II II+, but pretty and runs just about every Friday in the summer. Pair that with a Lehigh release and you have the makings of a nice weekend. Off for PA this PM.

Thats what I thought. That is a long drive for II-II+ but the pics look great the fall colors are really nice. Hope you have a blast let me know when you get back if it is worth the drive, I might try to get up that way in the fall if it is.

Worth the drive...yeah, for the combo. I will give a little TR today. I put some non interesting pics up on Kayak411. If you can hit it right for releases there is a great variety of paddling within a 50 mile region in the dead of summer when we are like fish out of water here in VA. Lackawaxen, Lehigh, Mongaup, and Esopus are dam releases with water from II to III+ (great to bring Newbies) and if there is a little natural flow to go with it you could add Nescopeck, Lackawanna (both II - III with a an IV for fun) and then there is creeking which I don't do, but lots of IV and V water.

Hey Turbo,

Hope you get the flow we did this weekend. Primo! I have run the gorge as low as 400 and the lower as high as 7000 cfs and it was spot on perfect at 800 cfs. Freakin awesome. Nothing like spending the afternoon in great water with like 3000 of your closest friends. Everyone had an awesome time.

Took you up on that one...are you talking about the Cuckoo's Nest up the road in Bohemia (no kidding, that is the name of the crossroads)? That is one cool place. PA has gone no smoking so what a treat to sit at the bar without all the smell.
