Creeking Clinics *DATES ADDED*

Post by Dave K »

That's right, it's finally here:

Got boof? :evil:

Inspired by Wallace’s triumphant Tellico runs and as a benefit of Coastals membership, I will teach two creeking clinics this fall. The dates of these one day clinics are 9/6/09, 9/8/09, 10/3/09, 10/31/09, 11/1/09. Each class is open to two students and the cost is $60 a student ($65 non-ACA member). They will be on the Lower Yough.

Topics Covered:
* Boofing
* Smearing
* Stroke efficiency
* The differences between paddling a creek boat and a play boat
* Surfing out of holes
* Boat scouting
* Risk management

Requirements:
* You must have paid your Club dues for 2010.
* You must be comfortable on the Lower Yough. It’s important that you be able to focus on skills and technique more so then surviving the river.
* Some semblance of a creek boat. (An RPM is not a creek boat Mike.) When the Webster Springs creeking trip comes around in the spring, I often get emails something like “I’ve got a creek boat but haven’t paddled it much and feel a lot more comfortable in my play boat. Which should I bring?” One of my goals in this class is to get you as comfy in your creeker as you are in your little boat. (Or at least get you started down that path.) YOu've gotta be in your creeker to do this.

Do I know what I’m talking about? Well, sometimes… maybe. I offer this thread as my resume:

http://www.coastals.org/forum/viewtopic ... 8c08559850

To register for the class, email me at dave (dot) kessmann (at) fgwa (period) com.

I’ve been marinating on this for a while and think I have a few good things cooked up. :evil::evil: I’m looking forward to it and hope you decide to come.

Thanks.

aww...I would want to take it if I was on the correct side of the country...and had a creek boat...and $60.... Especially after seeing the pictures of Wallace and Gromit on the Tellico!

I'm too new for this right now, plus I've never been on the Yough at all, but I hope you will consider doing this next spring!

Sadly, I'm covered up on both those dates* or I'd be on this like white on rice. I took KessmanN's playboating clinic a while ago. While I haven't mastered many of the skills, I'm a better boater for it. If you're available and meet the prereqs you ought to sign up.

*Schedule conflicts make me angry!!! :twisted:

Added some dates. They are now:

9/6/09, 9/8/09, 10/3/09, 10/31/09, and 11/1/09. 10/31 and 11/01 are oppossite Stockdill's LY trip.

Still room for 9/6. :evil:

I'm leaving early Friday for the week :evil: so, if you're interested in the 9/8 class, call:

eight zero four six five one 0 four six 4

You'd be taking it with none other then Wallace himself.

:evil: Wish I could make it up there :evil: I used up my kitchen pass to run the falls. Can't travel again 'til October :twisted: Hopefully I'll catch the 10/3 class. Thanks for putting them together!
Generally, I think that if I have the opportunity to paddle, and I've got something else to do or I feel like I shouldn't go for some reason, then I force myself to go and I always have a great time. So, I guess when in doubt -- Go, Paddle. -- Tommy Hilleke
