Who'd like a Lower James First Timers Trip?
Hello out there. I'd like to gauge interest if there's enough folks that would like me to put together a Lower James First Timers Trip. Please let me know by posting on here if you are interested. You don't have to be a first timer to be interested in the trip, just be interested in learning the lines and having some fun. If there's enough interest I'll find enough support to set safety and find a date when the water is at a good level. We'll finish this day up at Legends for an appropriate debrief:)
Disclaimer: This trip is being blatantly stolen from Gene Langlinais. There is hope that Gene joins us on the trip or at least at Legends for the debrief!

Id be interested although with me being in a SOT designed to fish and not exactly knowing what constitutes the lower James ( I know the names of the major rapids and know that I would probably do well to avoid them esp. in my craft)....I have been lurking in these forums and much (the majority) of what I see and read about is mostly related/geared toward SINKs that are designed for more experienced whitewater play...but yeah if their are lines I can take to safely avoid the major rapids without portaging I would definitely be interested.

Great questions Aksion!
What constitutes the Lower James?:
The Lower James and it's rapids are talked well about here:
http://www.americanwhitewater.org/conte ... il_id_1952
Julie Wilson also did a cool Google map of the James River so one can see where those rapids are located and that map is located here:
http://www.google.com/maps/ms?f=q&layer ... a6bc&msa=0
Can I do this trip in a SOT (sit on top kayak), one that is designed to fish?:
For this trip I will be requiring participants to have a whitewater kayak since we'll be taking the classic Lower James whitewater lines. This is a Class III/IV Run and requires a fair bit of maneuverability. Personally I don't care if that is a Sit on Top Whitewater Kayak (smooth rounded bottom, no runners or keel, rugged thigh straps) or sit in whitewater boat. Although I am sure that there are lines down the Lower James that are navigable in a fishing vessel at certain levels - we won't be going that route and it'll be important to keep the group together.
Hit me up at DJeffSmith (At) AOL (Dot) Com if I need to be clearer.

Mr Pack: Thank you!
MichaelMe: I DIG your support
Eddy Flower: You'll be in good hands!
telfestrumpets: Sweet
Tom: I'll look for dates and post something this weekend
K.W.L.: You are officially colored "interested"
Dee P: See above across from "Tom"
AllWet: This is a "Non-Pro" fun trip! I am sorry to say that unlimited free beer will not be provided
However I am not discouraging anyone from seeking sponsorship for such AFTER paddling BEvERages though if they so desire.
