OCT Upper Green River 11/7/15-11/8/15

Post by drew »

Hello all, this trip will be to the Green River near Saluda/Hendersonville, NC.
We will meet off of I-26 in Hendersonville Saturday morning to carpool to the Green River Race. For anyone who has never stood 5 feet from an extreme sporting event, this is it, high octane and non stop action with superb seating. A must see for anyone that has ever paddled. Sunday we will be putting on to float the Upper Green (Class II-III creek like nature). A scenic float. (Warning: the most difficult part of your day will be carrying your boat from the river bank up to the parking lot, its a hike/ endurance event. Or if you are feeling sporty, you can just run the narrows that you spent most of Saturday scouting/watching expert boaters make look so easy. I mean if they can do then maybe you can too).

11/7/2015: Meet & greet, go for a nice hike into the Green River Gorge and watch some amazing racing.

Wilderness Cove Campground (5.5 miles from Saluda). It is their "off-season" and the rules are 1st come, 1st serve $5.00/Person/night.
Address: 3772 Green River Cove Road Saluda, NC 28773 1-828-749-9100

or

Orchard Lake Campground (5 mi. from Saluda)
$35/Night for a tentsite (up to 4 people)
460 Orchard Lake Rd. Saluda NC 28773 1-828-749-3901

I will be staying in Charlotte, NC Friday night and driving to Hendersonville early Saturday morning. I will make arrangements to camp at either of the locations above depending on how many attend. Please email me @ dtstep86@gmail.com or text me @ 757-642-0731 if you plan to attend.

you can find more info on the race @ http://greenrace.amongstit.com
americanwhitewater.org as well as the upper green.

If you are unsure whether you are up for the Upper Green, you probably are, it is a fun narrow river with recovery pools on the backside of each rapid/drop. If you can run the Lower James, it will be a breeze. A roll would be handy, but the best bet is to just not flip over.

** Start a jogging regime now so you don't collapse on the hike out. Just kidding.
