Route 39 through Goshen Pass is closed for now

Post by bambam »

Alicia reports the road is closed from about half a mile west of the bridge above Rockbridge Baths until who knows where. A sign says it's due to high water. The area received 3-1/2" of rain last night in a short amount of time.

That's all the information I have.

Man. How long does that make the shuttle?

Yes there is, but you have to boof the bridge
Envelope – Free stationary taken from the Marriott while on a business trip.
Snowflake address label – sent to me free and had to be used up.
Stained glass stamp – It was more then three feet away from me when I decided to get them so you know I didn’t see them clearly
Butterfly and Sunflower stickers on the back – Also free and required because the glue on the envelope was so old it no longer stuck.

It's open this evening. I know the town of Goshen had some serious flooding. As for the long shuttle, I heard that after the 1985 flood, it became an 80 mile shuttle!

Goshen bigwater shuttle

Post by GDalton »

We paddled Goshen in the late 90's when it was well into the 5-digit flows and the road was closed. We had to shuttle out on I-64 to the Goshen exit.

At lower flows (but above 8000-10000?) we have had to sweet talk past a sheriff's deputy to do shuttle and even then there was shallow water on Rt. 39 in the low spots.

I remember the deputy saying, as he let us past, "Y'all are takin your life into your own hands!"

Which seems like how it should be most of the time anyway.
Think Rain,
