O.C.T. Sat. 4/2 Goshen Pass Clean-up, Paddle, & Cookout
Please mark your calendars for this umpteenth annual good time!
We'll meet @ the Rockbridge Baths P.O. on Rt. 39 on Sat, 4/2, @ 10am. Please do NOT park in front of or adjacent to the P.O. I'll have orange vests & trash bags. Then we'll drive upstream, stagger our parking, & pick up all the trash we can alongside Rt. 39 & down towards the river where possible. Please bring gloves. I also recommend long pants & long sleeves due to poison ivy. About noon, we'll head back to my house in RB for a cookout, courtesy of Coastals.
In past years, we've been fortunate to have enough water to then run 1 or 2 sections of the Maury - the Pass [Advanced], Indian Pools down [intermediate] &/or below the P.O. [low intermediate]. Fingers crossed for water again this year. If not, Balcony Falls is always available as a back-up (35 minute drive from RB).
To help with my shopping list for the cookout, PLEASE LET ME KNOW BY THURSDAY, 3/31, IF YOU ARE COMING. However, if you decide to come @ the last minute, you'll still be quite welcome, but I won't be able to promise you a big lunch.
Thanks in advance for helping with this worthwhile event - last year we had 18 volunteers & collected 32 bags of trash. While I hope there's less trash this year, it'd be great to have even more volunteers. (spoiler alert - I've seen plenty of trash waiting for us)
Please note the Pass trip will be putting in @ the swinging bridge, which is a Wildlife Management Area & requires a DGIF access permit or fishing or hunting license. See here for info: http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/access-permit/
Hope to see you 4/2! Alicia

Thanks to all for the replies - keep 'em coming! Remember I'd like to get a count Thursday night so I can shop on Friday.
There's rain in the forecast for Thurs/Fri, so hopefully it will be enough to let us paddle the Maury. Harder to predict now that the trees are starting to green up. But remember we have a Plan B, if needed.

UPDATE
I'm still hoping some rain tonite & tomorrow might bring up the Maury to @ least 2.0' USGS so we can run the lower section from the Post Office to Copper Road (class II+ with lovely scenery).

I fear it won't be enough rain to bring the Pass or middle sections up. If we get skunked on the Maury, we can decide as a group if we want to head to the James @ Balcony. Potential winds may become a factor in that decision.
But we will pick up trash regardless & have a good time over a free lunch w/ fellow river lovers! Please let me know this evening if you're coming so I can be sure to have enough for the cookout.
Thanks to all who've already let me know.
