OCT - Saturday November 5 - James from Buchanan to Alpine

Post by paddlin_bill »

Come join us on this class I/II trip on the James in Bottetourt County, from Buchanan to Alpine.

Please note that the official calendar had this on Sunday, but we will be paddling on Saturday. Sorry for any confusion, but the entry is corrected now.

This friendly section of the James - sections 7 and 8 of the Upper James River Water Trail - is pretty at any time of year, but hopefully we'll catch the trees still covered with orange and yellow leaves.

We'll meet at the public boat ramp next to Twin River Outfitters at 10:30 AM to set shuttle. Let me know if you are planning to come, either through reply to this post, or by phone at 434-444-zero one five seven.
  • As a side note, if you were at the Fall Meeting, the water trail currently ends at Alpine, but as Dave said, there are plans to extend it from here all the way down to Glasgow/Buena Vista, which helps the Rockbridge group with their plans to create a Maury River Water Trail.

joining

I may want to join this trip. Here's a question, though. How do you feel about a dog on the trip? Given the easy river and warm weather expected, it would be a good trip for my dog. He does well in my boat, but not sure how he would affect shuttle.

I'm planning on joining you for this trip right now. Would really like to see this section of the James and the colors should be beautiful.

I'm not opposed to a dog on the river, provided he minds you well and you aren't depending on anyone else for help controlling him while we are on the water. If he'll allow someone else in your vehicle with you we can figure out how to accomodate for shuttle.

Sounds great! Count me in if the weather is nice and we have enough people to drag me out of the river at Alpine. (My wheelchair hasn't been to that takeout yet.) Thanks Bill for organizing. Terri

We are in!

Gus (my lab/terrier mix) and I are in! I will have my 15 ft Prospector because that's my dog friendly boat, and I will be happy to carry anyone else's gear in it.

I have a small hatchback with 72 inch bars, so I can help shuttling other boats and a limited number of other people.

Thanks! I am very excited for this beautiful weekend!

The weather next Saturday is forecast to be 68 and sunny. And according to the guys at Twin River Outfitters in Buchanan the colors haven't peaked yet so it should be an awesome day.

Please respond here or give me a shout if your planning to join us.

Hope to see you there!

I'm still planning on being there unless something comes up at the last minute. Just want to make double sure that we are paddling SATURDAY the 5TH as the online calendar has the trip down for Sunday the 6th.
