Over the past several years we have explored many miles of rivers in eastern North Carolina, but because of the severe flooding in eastern NC which occurred last month, I've decided to go to the upper James this year.
I'm not familiar with the upper James, but see 600 cfs at the Buchanan gage, which ought to be sufficient water. A section of the river from above to below Buchanan seems best, but I'm open to suggestions. If anyone has been there recently an can recommend the best places to camp along these river miles, please let me know.
Most likely we will meet at Twin Rivers Outfitters in Buchanan on Saturday morning, set shuttle, paddle a few miles, camp, then put in a longer day on Sunday before camping the second night. On Monday, if the weather is good and folks are interested, there is the possibility of paddling the Balcony Falls section before heading home.
Check back here for final details about this trip on Wednesday evening.
