Pigg River Ramble June 2,3,4

Post by Raymond »

In addition to the Pigg River Ramble on Saturday, June 3, there is a night-time float (about an hour) on Friday night and a Sunday morning float. Or you can stay over and run the Pigg again on your own.

See the link below for entry forms and more information or call:

Here's another link giving a description of the river. I noticed the dates are different in this link. I would suppose the entry form dates are correct.

A couple of additions:

1) River usually runs at around 200 cfs - it is now at 40 cfs. If any of you have pull with the Man above, some help would be appreciated on the rain front.

2) Check out the website below for descriptions of the rivers:

www.franklincountyva.org/parks/blueways.htm

3) Scott Shipley and Gary Lacey from Boulder will be in town next Thursday night to begin the design work for the future Pigg River whitewater park AND give a talk on the design of whitewater parks. This talk will be free and open to the public and will be held at the Franklin County library.

If you are interested in attending any of these events and need further information or directions, drop me an e-mail.

Scott

Yes, but (you knew the but was coming), you will have to get out in spots. The number of times you have to get out will be determined by the ability of other paddlers to pick and run the junk lines. If someone gets sideways, it will back folks up.

Yes, but it will be very scrapey. You should expect some dragging and walking.

Scott was referring to the CFS level of the Blackwater River; it's gauge gives a better indication of how much water is in the upper Pigg than the Pigg River gauge, which is 20 miles or more down stream of the Pigg River Ramble section.

See the following link for more information:
