I can't really explain it but we have significant potentiial whitewater in the western part of the state. I guess the ground is pretty saturated and it doesn't take much to bring up the flows.
Anyway, too soon to tell but it looks like some creek fun may happen.
At minimum I gotta think the Maury will be good to go through the weekend and rain is expected there.
Interest?

Various things are booming. 59 degrees, quite windy, saw robins in the yard yesterday, yipppee!
I'm going to go earn a little gas money today and look forward to a great Saturday. High of 50 predicted with 10 - 20 mph winds makes the Tye area seem like a good choice. (Being east of the Blue Ridge it seems somewhat sheltered from the wind.) Let's hope it holds.

Hey, you got room in a tandem canoe for a one arm old canoer? Water in the creeks and me still layed up is killing me.

David's Whitetop Laurel trip looks sweet and so does Kessmann's Wilson Creek trip but I'm just not up for that big a trip this weekend.
Tough to tell at this point what will hold more locally. Tye may be low but runnable. Upper Piney looks promising. Bullpasture looks promising.
Note if it ends up being Upper Piney, not cool on that one to just show up. I view it as being a bit tougher than the Cranberry and I've only run it once.
It wouldn't hurt my feelings to run the Tye and the Upper Piney in the same day as both are short runs and one mountain apart.
I'll try to post here in the a.m. by about 8:30 looking to meet somewhere around 11:00 or noon depending on who's interested and coming from where.

Ken,
Tye was 3'3" at 11 today, 3.0 at 4ish. Rocks were starting to show. Piney was doable but scrapey at 5 (per Ethan's post). Gooney is going down.
Rapp is cranking though, my home river. Mmm, class II+.

Hi all,
I haven't posted here in awhile - sorry I missed the New Year's Day Chili Cook-off... Anyway, I have been wanting to run the Maury for over a year and it looks like my wish might finally come true. I can do a day trip from DC on Sunday. Actually I'll be driving down from Baltimore, yikes.
Anyone interested?

All have fun out west; looks like me and my peeps will just be enjoying the James from around 9 ft. to 12 ft. which is an ok thing.

Assuming you are referring to the Goshen Pass section, I'd expect the Maury to still be quite beefy by Sunday.

The Tye is getting low but should still be quite runnable. We ran it several months ago at 650 cfs and dropping which I'd call an honest zero. It should be about 800 today.
Meeting at the confluence of the North and South Forks at noon today, Saturday.
Assuming you know what you are getting into, feel free to just show up.
