Balcony on Sunday?

Post by topheavy »

I might head to Richmond this weekend, but I haven't been to the woods in awhile and would rather go to Balcony if anyone else is interested. Takeout at noon, very flexible.

I hope I remember how to paddle!

I wish I could get out there. It's a bit far afield though. If you come to Richmond on Sunday maybe we can get together.

If you don't go to Richmond I'm interested in a Balcony run on Sunday. I haven't done the timing math yet but would like to keep open the option of hitting the roll session in Lexington at four.

I was also thinking of going to Richmond tomorrow, but will probably do Balcony. If Balcony, I would also like to get to the roll session at 4.

Would 11 work?

Post by Rocklover »

Mark (vawwyakr who wrote above) and I have some committments in the afternoon and would need to put on around 11. Does that time work for people?

Sweet!

Ken and Melanie, would a 10:30 takeout meeting get you to Lexington in time?

Sounds like a plan.

By "takeout" I gather you mean the gravel pull off closer to the dam?

Yup, I'm thinking of the "gravel lot" that's upstream of the dam a little ways:
Thanks for the map Julie

I'd like to join you guys - is this the takeout right at the Appalachian Trail bridge (right before the boat ramp takeout)?

Do you think I'll need to run shuttle? If not, I won't put my roof rack on and just bring the kayak in my car.

See you at the takeout at 10:30.

Barb,

I'm not sure if you'll need to run shuttle.

I don't think we're talking about the same place. From the take out you're thinking of, follow the road (US 501, VA 130) upstream (northwest). Soon you'll come up on a gravel lot on the North (non-river) side of the road. This is when the road is still pretty flat and straight compared to other parts - if you start climbing and turning a lot, go back the way you came and look again.

Or you can make it easy on yourself and we can carpool from the Cville area. Then you're more likely to need the roof racks :)

Thanks, Brian! Sorry I didn't see your message before writing the other one - don't know what happened there....guess i wasn't paying attention.

I'm going to try to do the roll practice too. If you still want to carpool, let me know.
