Put me in for one vote for not putting in before 8:00. It's worth a few dollars to wake up at a normal time and eat breakfast.
OK I am in

Is this a day trip or are you guys/gals going for the entire weekend? How far away is the river?

Definitely the weekend. It's ~ a 5 hour drive there.

As much as I love the James, I would love to paddle some new rivers. Dan, Patrick, and Bill-- based on what you know about the Yough and my skills, do you think I could handle the lower Yough?

you'll do fine. It's about equivalent to the James at 4.5 just longer. So with the current levels it's a small step up, but nothing large.

I would have to disagree about this being equivalent to the James @ 4.5. Its bigger and pushier and definitely requires a need for really good boat control.
When i did it on the 4th of July weekend it was 2.66 and the wave trains were larger than i expected. I also found river's End and Dimple rapids to be really pushy and less room for error.
I would say maybe the lower James @ 6.0 would be a better equivalent as long as the levels stay below 3'.
JMHO.

To peter's point, it's more pipeline and hollywood at 4.5 for the whole time. But since you've yet to get good enough water for that it's irrelevant.
Your boat control is definitely good enough and the roll is good. Besides mother duck will be there to guide, and Bill is already designated the official swim team.

Sweet, I'm in-- most likely. Should be good to get on something a little pushier.
Until then, everyone do your rain dance so that we can get some water here in Richmond!!

Working on the rain dance every spare minute. Saturday it was so low as to be almost not worth running. Glad I've got an old scarred boat to hide the new scars from the low water runs.
