TRIP CANCELLED. Due to the extremely cold weather - This trip has been CANCELLED. They are calling for the single digits tonight and we won't be much above 10 or 11 degrees by 10am. The water is in the 30's. This raises the consequences of any mishap that could happen and I do not feel comfortable leading a trip of a bunch of paddlers that have not paddled together. Sorry for the late notice - the forecast just kept getting colder and colder.

My daughter (Sophie) and I will be hosting a trip down the Upper James on Saturday, 1/17 in conjunction with the Quarterly Meeting that day. Our plan is to meet at Reedy Creek at 10:30am, shuttle up to Pony Pasture then paddle back down to Reedy to meet up with the group doing the Lower at 1pm. Those that solely want to do the Upper can get out there, those that want to do the whole river can paddle down through with the Lower Group.

Please post here or email me if you'll be joining us.

I plan on joining you for the upper run, if that's ok. I may continue on with the folks heading onto lower ... I'll know more as the date comes closer, and I'll keep you posted. I just knocked a whole lotta rust out of my paddling skills which had been on the shelf for over a year, so as long as the rust keeps coming off, I will be doing the lower as well.
cheers, Quilla

I gotta warn you Jeff. Don't be intimidated by the Monster truck(no weapons, I checked) or initial quite demeanor
Kept me in stitches for 2 hours.

Would like to go float down the river, but I must do it without paddling. MichaelME do you think you could tow me down the lower?

Count on two more for the upper run. Ronnie and Dennis, both Coastal members. We plan on the upper only, stay for the meal and program. Looking forward to meeting actual people who so far have only been cyber contacts. Ronnie, the Vertpaddler.

Looks like we have critical mass for the Upper Run. It is going to be pretty cold on Saturday. With a high of 40 for the day expect it to be in the mid-30's for this run. Dress warm!

Is there anyone else that can lead this trip? Frankly it is way too cold for me and my daughter. Michael are you going? At 10am in the morning it'll brobably be in the teens. Water is in the 30's. Thats too cold - just "ain't" fun when it is this cold. I'd rather go look at the Monarchs with Ken

Much agreed about the nip to the air, listening to experience on such issues........ Catch all on the flipside or maybe the evening meeting..
