Press Release #2 Dave and the Juggernaut do the Tallulah

Post by Dave K's PR Team »

The weekend began with the meeting of Dave and the Juggernaut in Greensboro where they consolidated into one truck and cruised to the Jones? house in Franklin NC. (Much thanks to the Jones? for their hospitality. Dave would not be able to travel nearly as much if it were not for his gracious fans all over. Keep up the good work, and the official fan club is coming soon.) Saturday started early and an excited and nervous Juggernaut was the first boater down the steps. He says he made it down the 592 steps in 6 minutes, I guess we?ll just have to take his word for that one. Dave made it down shortly after and proceeded to collapse onto his knees. He says he was stretching his quads, we?re working with him on this, he may have been stretching but it?s just not good for the image, we?re still working. After a little break at the bottom and a little class II ferry practice the fun begins. The boys both run Last Step great right behind the line expertly demonstrated by Chan. As you may remember Dave had a little boo boo here last April being on the wrong side of the 50-50 first timers ratio. The Juggernaut however managed to stay on the right side of the 50-50 ratio. (We are still working on getting a representation deal done with him though he is a tough negotiator. We do feel that once the deal is done our jobs would be smooth sailing as he all ready has the hot new matching gear thing going. With a little direction he could really go places.) Next up Casey ran Tanners Launch and set up for photos which he tirelessly did all day on Saturday. (Casey, thanks for documenting the day for Dave and the Juggernaut, it make our job a lot easier and you were the on that found the angle at Lynch?s Wrench, Chan only found a better way to get there, it?s still your spot. Chan, thanks for your camera work on Sunday as well.) The crew then pulls out above Oceana to take a look. Casey starts the camera while Chan nails the line. The rest of the crew heads over to river right to start the portage which Dave had another little boo boo with last April. After watching the show at Oceana for a while the crew heads for the Gauntlet. This is the real beginning of the Juggernauts day. He manages to flip in the last drop just above Bridal Vail roll up and get to the pool. He then get a little too far right in Bridal Vail and flips again with a quick roll and a nice paddle stroke he gets off the boil line. Next comes Zoom Flume where everyone has a great time and a forward facing run. Casey then heads down a finds a great photo spot for Lynch?s Wrench where Chan styles the boof followed by Dave and the Juggernaut who both flip and roll after the boof. The crew then makes it to Amphitheater which is the most visually impressive spot both Dave and the Juggernaut have found during their paddling careers. The rest of the river is run great by all except where the Juggernaut got lazy in that little no name spot. The lake is the concurred and the crew is off to Mamma G?s for some garlic bread and evil looks from Poppa G.

Day two begins with a great breakfast by Susan (thanks again for everything.) The crew loads up and starts heading South again. The trip to the river takes a little longer than expected and we?ll let Dave fill you in on the reason. (Though we are the PR Team we are firm believers in taking personal responsibility. And remember, there is no such thing as bad press.) Things get straightened out and eventually the crew makes it to the steps where the Juggernaut maintains he still had a sub 10 minute time even with having to wait to pass boaters when they took breaks. We believe the times to be accurate though we also believe his legs will hurt for a few days this week. Dave again makes it down and goes into his ?stretching? collapse. (Think image Dave, image.) After putting on and a few ferries it?s on to Last Step again. The Juggernaut again maintains the correct side of the 50-50 ratio Dave however does not. He takes a little bumping with the extra 200 CFS on Sunday, get to the bottom and rolls up. Sitting in the eddy he briefly thinks about the weight of his boat and how 592 would be the other way. He then proceeds to nail Tanners Launch and head directly to the river right portage of Oceana. Chan and the Juggernaut go river left to take a look. Chan again nails the line, flips at the bottom and rolls up. The Juggernaut does some pacing, some thinking, takes a quick bathroom break realizing it is better done outside of the boat, then straps it up and points it downstream. Flying at 40mph he nail the bottom hole, flips, has the paddle ripped from his right hand, gets control of the paddle, rolls up, fights out of the hole, and yells ?HELL YEAH!!!...... NEVER AGAIN!? The Juggernaut is ecstatic that he has run it but realizes he still likes his ankles for things like lacrosse. (We?re working on getting him to make more of a commitment to kayaking and give up that pesky spring sport.) The crew then continues on where the Juggernauts boo boo?s persist. He flips in Amphitheater while trying to avoid Casey who had just flipped and was getting surfed in a hole. After running Tom?s Brain Buster the Jones boys make the statement ?that?s it.? Dave and the Juggernaut don?t exactly see it that way. The Juggernaut gets stopped in a hole in Road to Aintry and nails a closely following Casey in the shoulder with a rising stern. The Juggernaut again flips in a lazy no name spot. Though the flip count is 8 for the weekend the Juggernaut feels he picked the right spot to flip every time as he does not hit anything and keeps that shiny new helmet scratch free. The Juggernaut realized that this is more of a luck occurrence and is working on the flip problem. When the crew gets to the lake the Juggernaut says to the Jones boys ?Just a note for you two superstars, there are still rapids below Brain Buster.? Casey responds with, ?What are you talking about ?Superstars??? And Dave quickly reply with a finger point, ?You two.? Those two boys really have their full on BA(edited by the man) cards while Dave and the Juggernaut realize their BA(edited by the man) cards still say ?TRAINING? on the back. The press team really wants to stress how thankful Dave and the Juggernaut are for the job the Jones boys did. (Chan and Casey, do you all need representation. We don?t know if we are really capable of handling clients as good as you but we are always looking to expand the company.) The crew then parts ways and Dave and the Juggernaut head North. The two part ways in Greensboro where they decide they?re going back in April.

you will never be able to hold a candle to the infamous Corn Youth Alliance as long as you keep tensing up like that. Do some deep breathing. Visualize wacking someone with a bat. Whatever it takes.

Hang in there.

Love, Harvey.

Dave and Juggy,

You guys really rate to have a pro photog traveling with you! I would say awesome trip report, but my ADHD kicked in mid-first-mile-long-paragraph - no criticisms, I'll just have to go back and re-read it after I've had my first-morning Ritalin. :D

Those pics were incredible, especially the one of Oceana from the bottom. Wow.

Great report. I just finished it, two hours later. Very well written, but maybe better delivered in person, with cool sound effects and mime-demonstrations.

I must say, for those of you who can't get through the whole thing, I do believe the best part to be:

The photo crew definitely earned their money, with pictures like that!

Congratulations.

One day I am going to get me some big boy pants and do that river, but walk Oceana.

Good job boys!!
Envelope – Free stationary taken from the Marriott while on a business trip.
Snowflake address label – sent to me free and had to be used up.
Stained glass stamp – It was more then three feet away from me when I decided to get them so you know I didn’t see them clearly
Butterfly and Sunflower stickers on the back – Also free and required because the glue on the envelope was so old it no longer stuck.

Wow, never thought we would get a famous TV personality as our shuttle bunny. This PR Team must be paying off... I'll have to factor that in my negotiations...

Justin -

Are you still rolling in the Super EZ? My new boat is so Jealous of the experience my sold boat is getting with the new owner. The piranha has asked repeatedly to be sold to an all*star boater so that it can too see some real river time.

Good Deal Gentlemen - What's left now??? Green Narrows? Millions of uncharted creeks? The Zambezi and White Nile?

Congrats!
Take me to the River.........Drop me in the Water.

KESSMAN...

Are you going to let your PR firm do you trip report or are you going to dazzle us with some misspelled adventures from your own warped mind???

The Super sleEZy was the Upper Gauley boat of choice this year. There are thoughts of running the Project out there but that still kinda scares me...

If I know a 7-O can't stand up to Mr. Edward of Iron Curtain, UG that leads me to question a project out there...
