I missed the Fri/Sat trips, but caught up for Sun and Mon on the gorge.
Sunday, we had a big group on a very busy river. We had around 13 kayaks and 4 canoes. The keelhaulers had an even larger group behind us, intermixed with a few dozen commercial rafts. River was still open enough to be comfortable and level was great at around -0.4. Our fearless leaders, Ken and Alicia showed us the good lines and bailed out the swimmers (mostly me) with some help from veterans Dave and Liz, Lee, Paul and John V.
Monday, the river was much quieter and our group was much smaller, 5 yaks and 3 canoes. River was right at 0 when we reach Fayette Station. Another great day on the water led by Ken and Alicia again.
I took a hard ender on middle Keeney and my kayak seat moved forward about 2 inches. That didn't set me up well for Lower Keeney with predictable results. Thankfully, Ken was able to help me shift my seat back into position and the rest of the trip was less eventful.
The trip wouldn't have been complete without an act of river karma. Ken found a matching pair of sandals floating down toward Fayette Station. We surmised that they likely belonged to the 5 girls paddle boarding upstream from there. I felt compelled to attain my way back up there and find their owner because the girls seemed underprivileged - they could only afford very small bathing suits.
Thanks to Ken and Alicia for organizing an awesome weekend!
