Though I am not the one "technically" responsible for the trip report this round, I will go ahead and get it started and let others fill in the details...
The plan was finalized some time Friday afternoon for Angry Dave, Jen, Juggy, Guy, and myself to meet at the Summersville dam at 11am Saturday morning for a run on the Upper G.
I met Guy at his house around 7am and we left to go pick up Juggy in C-Ville. Luckily Juggy called to ask us where we were right about the time we were about to miss his exit off of 64. After a quick load up of gear and some quality coffee compliments of Donna and Doug we took off for WV.
Upon getting to the dam we met up with Kessman and Jen, then tried to figure out WHY the heck we were there @ low water in 30+F weather to paddle."Oh yeah, nothin else was running..."
We suited up and Juggy and I stayed at the put-in while everyone else ran the eleventeen hour long shuttle...
The level was 1500cfs, roughly half of what normal Gauley season release is. warming up through the first few rapids everyone was in good spirits even with the cold weather. the order of the day seemed to be Juggy, Guy, Me, then Kessman as we aproached Initiation. Somewhere below here Guy decided to pop into a pourver and see what would happen... Though uneventful, this would set the tone for Guy's upcoming performance...
Insert Guy's trip report here:...........................................

That evening we headed to Pies and Pints for grub then off to Ace's to hassle the one of the employees to hook us up with a chalet and hottub.
after many unsuccessful cell phone calls we were freezing and decided to hit the Quality Inn in Fayetteville.
While Juggy broke in his new helmet (with custom ear outfitting)
Image
, Guy and myself went to the Hotel bar to have a few drinks and socialize with the natives. Two Modelo's, Vodka tonics, and shooters later we returned to the "Luxury" suite we procured earlier to find Juggy nearly passed out.
The next morning Juggy wrestled with his Burn outfitting for an hour then we took off for some much needed coffee at the Cathedral.
Fully caffinated and well fed we headed up to the Put-in for another run on the Upper.
Though Saturday's trip left no one with dry hair, I believe I was the only one who flipped this time( in part to a certain impatient paddler who though I was going to slow) dropping into a pourover and side surfing till I decided to only way out was to flip and hopefully get flushed.
All in all Sunday was uneventful with warmer temperatures and more sun.
I have no Idea about the drive home as I was completely passed out except for a quick dinner stop at the "Tweaker Bell" in Charmco WV.

Quote of the weekend from Donna and Doug:
"You can have a beer, you're not driving right?..."

Don't get too excited folks, I didn't swim out of my boat. But Juggy and I did have to swim in some water.

After my pour over side surf in Initiation, without flipping, we ran the next drop or two and then it happened.

I got broached!

Shawn passed by me, luckily without trying to "bump" me off the rock. I was sitting pretty stable and Juggy was attaining to my rescue when I asked him if I could try and get myself to go backwards from where I was, but he gave me a big NO!! As he was getting out of his boat, mine started to shift and it got a little scary. Yelling to him "SLIDING" he hurried, letting his boat go downstream and tossing his paddle. While he was trying to climb up the submerged rock and grab my boat, which had just shifted again, he threw my paddle. I then loosened my back band through the skirt and got my legs out ready to spring from my boat when I popped the skirt. Luckily that all worked fine. We tried to pull my boat up but ended up pushing it over to run through the badness that was behind me. After it broke free KessmanN and Shawn were collecting our junk and Juggy and I had to swim to the river left shore and walk down to our stuff.

It turned out OK and we were all safe!

Thanks to all for your help and special thanks to Juggy for saving my life. Now if I ever have a kid, so far he'll have to named David Justin Colombini*

Gjuy, what made you think it was O.K. to go over there? Were you following anyone?

For those of you wondering, the UG at 1500 / 1600 cfs is hard class IV. It is slightly smaller and less pushy but the lines are all pretty much the same as at normal release (approx. 3000 cfs). The exceptions are the fourth drop of Lost Paddle and Iron Ring. Iron Ring is still best portaged at 1600 cfs.

At this level, Jug and I both though it was a creek boat run as he and I both left our play boats on the racks both days.

I had done it once before at about 700 out of the dam with the Meadow adding another 200 and it was more creeky and did not resemble the UG at standard release the way 1600 cfs did.

I think we all agreed that 1600 was a good, fun level and would do it again, especially if it was warmer.

Yes, you did say sorry, thank you for your proper river ettiquette. (Just so everyone know's Juggy is the most polite person you'll ever paddle with.)
Even if he inadvertantly sends you into an avoidable hazard...
and yes, too many I's...

For the record I think he looks like Ill Mitch too.

Did y'all portage Iron Ring or run it. What's the danger there at that flow. Is it the nasty rock left of the line?

Super sketchy!! big horseshoe hole pushing you into a crack. and the mainflow gets pushed that way from the current coming out of the cave on the right. I'll try to find a pic of it.

Well Mr. Rubble, I take full responsibility for the broach  but was probably closer that I might have gone trying to see what Juggy was trying to look at. :?

After all, my mommy told me I am a big boy now and can make my up my own mind
