I hope everyone was able to get out and enjoy this recent rain. It has been such a weird winter with everything being so warm and dry. Well, we finally got some water, so I decided to go hit Staton's on Sunday. It was a little strange that Staton's came up even though the Piney or North Fork Tye did not even budge.
We got on the creek with the gauge reading 260 cfs and falling. The level felt similar to an old reading of about 180 cfs. This seems to support the change of the minimum flow to 200 cfs.
There is definitely some wood in the creek, which of course is nothing new. Unfortunately, the biggest let down was that Johnnie Wise is not runnable due to a HUGE tree in the pool at the bottom. The tree will remain there for a LONG time unless we go in and try to get it out. Also, you can run the 1st rapid below the big pool below Chunderslide, but you then need to get out and portaged 3 logs in quick succession. This takes Stubby rapid out of play. The rest of the run is wood free. Duck and Run is one drop that has actually gotten cleaner. There is no longer a tree across the river at the bottom. It is now a straight shot down the gut.

Glad you got to get on it! Here's the pics of how most of the logs disappeared and much of Staton's became runnable again back in November 2011.
Generally, I think that if I have the opportunity to paddle, and I've got something else to do or I feel like I shouldn't go for some reason, then I force myself to go and I always have a great time. So, I guess when in doubt -- Go, Paddle. -- Tommy Hilleke
THANK YOU BRANDON!!! and whoever else was involved. THANK YOU!!!
I want to go in there next time you do a wood removal mission. The thing to do would be to go in from the top, since all the wood is from below Chunderslide to Johnnie Wise.
Give me a ring whenever you are thinking of going in to cut. Remember, I am not on Facebook to hear the news on the "boaters of the 434" page.
Brandon,
Lets go in there together next time it runs. You should go in there and reap the spoils of your efforts.

John Williamson (Jdub) was the champion of the November mission. We couldn't get anyone else to go in with us, so it was just the two of us. We started at the bottom and worked our way up to the top cutting and hauling. When we left, the only thing we didn't touch was Log Flume.
We'll definitely call you for the next cleanup mission! And I'll definitely be in touch the next time it runs and I'm available to go. SYOTR!
