Post by JDzielak »

Your full day of paddling excitement for the Coastals Winter Gathering starts with the Upper/Lower James River Trip.

9:30 Folks participating in the daily double (upper/lower) should arrive at 14th street and change into their gear.
9:40 Folks participating in the upper only should arrive at Reedy Creek and change into their gear.
9:50 Double group consolidates with upper only group at Reedy Creek.
10:00 Pony Pasture put-in
11:45 Lower only group should meet at 14th street and shuttle to Reedy Creek.
12:30 All groups meet at Reedy Creek.
3:30 Lower and Double groups take out at 14th street.
4:00 Post-paddle food/drink until Film Festival

It's going to be cold... please dress for the swim.

Please post your intentions. Upper trip will be canceled if there is a lack of interest (and/or not enough water).

Saturday January 26

That would be Saturday January 26. I would like to paddle the whole James - all seven miles of whitewater through Richmond.

The Film Fest is a best-of the National Paddling Film Festival. Doors open at 7pm at VCU Harris Hall Auditorium, which is at 1015 Floyd Avenue. Show starts at 7:30.

I vote for lower only. Unless the river rises significantly.

Jon,
Nice job on the planning - r u an engineer or something? Hold that Upper Only option open as long as possible - there may be some that will hold out for another awesome warm weather forecast....just sayin'.... and thanks for organizing!

Both

Post by Vertpaddler »

I would prefer to paddle both sections, but I will be okay with just the upper or just the lower if that is the consensus. I like the most river possible, even with both it is not a long run. Ronnie T.

If there is interest either myself or someone else may be willing to lead an alternate line party down cemetery and south side.

I'll be doing the lower only.
Generally, I think that if I have the opportunity to paddle, and I've got something else to do or I feel like I shouldn't go for some reason, then I force myself to go and I always have a great time. So, I guess when in doubt -- Go, Paddle. -- Tommy Hilleke

If the level holds we should be at about 6' by Saturday. This should be a great level for an upper/lower double feature, however, make sure you check the weather and dress appropriately. Its going to be cold!
