Don?t forget pipeline, it?s a great place to work on the moving water roll. I learned my offside there, it worked so well my offside is now my onside.

Hey Guys,

The best bang for your buck for roll practice & park and play is pipeline - just don't swim.

Drive to the observation deck / Reynolds.

The river right eddy is deep enough for rolling, and if you are class III boaters, third drop pipeline is a good hole to play in and, as you'll find combat roll in. And if you feel like it, it is easy to push your boat up the pipe and run part of the pipline section. I may be available Sunday afternoon.

Yep, I roll on my left side now and my right side still sucks.

Swimming at pipeline is ok if you?re in the eddy. I learned the lefty thing by myself and had an occasional swim during the process. Do swims count if no one witness the act.

Rollin' on the River

Post by jimmyyak »

Dave, what time are you coming up on Sunday? One guy from work is going to pick up a new kayak on Sunday morning then he and will join another co-worker and me for some rolling practice and a possible run down the lower James. Since the lower levels are somewhat (low) it should be a good run for you and Liz. You could even practice that bomb roll you got last weekend in Hollywood. I'll be working on my off-side roll. Give me a heads up and we'll try to meet up with the both of you.

Jim C.

We're thinking late morning early afternoon. Our focus will be to get Liz rolling. I'm comfortable rolling in flat water and getting there in current, but we need some help bringing her up to speed. What do you say?

Good luck guys!! I'm sure yous will be rolling like champs in no time!
Envelope – Free stationary taken from the Marriott while on a business trip.
Snowflake address label – sent to me free and had to be used up.
Stained glass stamp – It was more then three feet away from me when I decided to get them so you know I didn’t see them clearly
Butterfly and Sunflower stickers on the back – Also free and required because the glue on the envelope was so old it no longer stuck.

Dave, here's a run I like to do. Put in at Tredegar up from Brown's Island, a lot of flatwater and good area to practice rolling, then I run from there to Mayo, it hits a few smaller rapids on the way to Pipeline then some fun there. We skip first break and Hollywood with that smaller run but it does give you some paddling, plus with the river running just above 3.5' it makes it kind of bearable. Let me know if you think that would work for you.

Liz and Dave,
Alex and myself will possibly see yall sunday,Although, with me working on a sloppy C-1 roll, and Alex without one at this point,we'll probably play around upriver to save face.I've finally got my outfitting comfortable for a few hours. Alex just Bought himself a Dagger C-1,so we're not too sure about Downtown.Although Knowing Him,that's probably where He'll want to go.
Hey Corn Youth,
"Alex The Helmetless Crazy" is now just "Alex the Crazy"or "Helmet the Crazy",either or.
Alex Also got his truck back in one piece a week after having it stolen from Reedy Creek parking. Hooray Alex![now just remember to park it on the street]

Looks like I will see you at pipeline, I have an early afternoon obligation, so am going on the river earlier. Hope to see you. If not perhaps you will join us in Bloomington in October.
