9/21/2019 - Upper New River Trip (Gualey Fest)

Post by Bill Capp »

I have been asked to substitute in for Steve Wiegandt as trip lead. Unless water levels dictate otherwise, we will run the Surprise Section from Thurmond to Cunard. This is a long and tedious shuttle, so we will try to consolidate boats (not vehicles) at the campground, drive to Cunard, drop as many empty vehicles as we can and then proceed to Thurmond.

Please note that most of us are staying at Arrowhead Bike Farm and Campground (not Rays) near Fayetteville.

Please let me know: (1) If you are coming; and (2) Whether you will spend Friday night in the local area or are driving up from elsewhere on Saturday morning.

IF - everyone is local, we will meet at 9:00 AM near the entrance of Arrowhead Bike Farm and Campground. IF someone is driving in from elsewhere, we will push to 10:00 AM. I will check the forum late Friday morning before I leave for WV to see if we have anyone coming from elsewhere and update this post about the meeting time. If you don't post that you are driving in from elsewhere before late morning on Friday, I won't get the message and you risk getting left behind.

If you need to contact me outside of the Coastals Forum, send me a PM and I will respond with my mobile phone number and/or personal email address.

SEE YOU THERE & THEN.

Hi, Bill. I'd like to join you for the trip. I plan on driving up that morning from Christiansburg (about 2 hours according to Google Maps). I don't mind an earlier start if you want to get things going before 10.

Mike - we’ll treat you like a local for purpose of meeting time. I won’t push til 10 unless someone else needs the extra hour to get up here.

So far, it’s just you and me.

Linda and I will be coming in Saturday morning. How about a 9:30 meeting time?

Camping Option

Post by Bill Capp »

I have reserved a campsite with a table and fire ring for Friday and Saturday night at Arrowhead. The site can accommodate 4 persons and so far it is just me. I am happy to share the site with the first three paddlers that respond to this post.

Revised Meet Time

Post by Bill Capp »

We will push meeting to at least 9:30.

I may push another 30 depending on what I hear from others.
