Coastals Community Outreach at Riverfest Waynesboro

Post by Gourmetdave »

Hey Paddlers,

It's time for Riverfest 2025 and Coastal Canoeists Community Outreach. We’re looking for volunteer paddlers to run kids down the South River and members to promote the club and answer questions at the Coastal’s display on the riverfront.

Riverfest 2025 http://riverfestwaynesboro.com/ is on Saturday May 3rd. Riverfest reaches more than 2000 children and adults and emphasizes our commitment and responsibility to provide environmental education to our young people and to the conservation of our natural resources. It’s a great event and cause, plus there’s nothing like experiencing a child’s first trip down a river in a canoe.

We’re shorthanded on volunteers, as a number of our regulars are unable to help this year. I can really use more paddlers for a half day or whole day. There’s usually a bit of a competition to see who can get the most runs in. Canoes will be provided or you can bring your own. You'll run kids down the .33 mile of river along the Greenway in Waynesboro’s Constitution Park and then be shuttled back or walk the Greenway back to the put in to do it again. We’ll meet and park at the put in, which is at the end of Short St. in Constitution Park, look for canoe trailers. The take out is at the RR bridge. It's a class 1 section. We will be running folks down from 9:30-3:30. Bring a lunch and if you want your favorite PFD and paddle (single or double blade), or we can provide them too. The Coastals display set up begins at 9:00am with the festival starting at 10:00am.

Please message me with questions, or to let me know if you or someone you know can help out to see as many young people as possible can get a canoe run down the South!

Thanks, Dave

Hey, Dave. I can help. Is it more helpful if I use your canoes, or bring my Echo?
