O.C.T. 3/26 Goshen Pass clean-up, cook-out & paddle

Post by Alicia »

Just an early heads up to mark your calendars for this annual fun event.

General info is we meet @ the Rockbridge Baths P.O. on Sat, 3/26, @ 10am. Please do not park in front of or adjacent to the P.O. I'll distribute lovely orange vests & trash bags & we'll drive upstream, stagger our parking, & pick up all the trash we can alongside Rt. 39 & down towards the river where possible. Please bring gloves. I also recommend long pants & long sleeves due to potential poison ivy. Then we head back to my house in RB for a cookout, courtesy of the Coastals' Recognition program.

In past years, we've had water to then run 1-2 sections of the Maury - the Pass [Advanced] & below the P.O. [low intermediate]. Hoping to do the same this year. Balcony Falls is always available as a back-up.

To help w/ my shopping list, PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE COMING. However, if you decide to come @ the last minute, you'll still be welcome, but I won't be able to promise you a big lunch.

Bump

Post by Alicia »

David, I'll have you covered for lunch. My farmer neighbor wants to thank us for our doing this clean-up by donating some of his beef for the burgers. Should be good.

Now, just do your rain dances this coming week so we have some water in the Maury to paddle after we earn some good karma. But remember, we can still run Balcony as a back-up plan.

FYI, starting 3/25 thru June, Interstate 81 South will be down to one lane between exits 213 and 217. My understanding is cars will be routed on to #11, while trucks will take the one lane on #81.

Please remember to let me know if you're coming, as I need to pick up orange vests & trash bags, plus shop for the cook-out. Thanx.

Alicia,

I plan to attend and have an orange vest. I may be running a few minutes late because of an early morning event here, but I'll arrive in time to pick up plenty of trash.

I know its gonna sound crazy... but I love to pick trash up, and I am not talking about at bars either... I will try to get off to come help, I have been wanting to for a few years now.

SIGN UP FOR GOOD RIVER KARMA

Post by Alicia »

Just making another shameless plug & bump. I've only heard from 7 folks so far. Last year we had 22, & we picked up 45 bags of trash. Not that I hope there's that much trash to be picked (tho I'm sure there is), but I would like to hear from more of you. This is a great opportunity to give a little back, especially for those of you who love the Pass.

There is a chance of rain the next 2 days, so we may still get some water to paddle here. I do want to let you know that there's also a chance of rain on Saturday, w/ temps about 50 degrees. Perhaps we'll get even more good karma if we pick up trash in a cool rain.

And we can/will paddle Balcony if the Maury is too low.

Please post or PM me if you're coming, so I can be sure to get enough bags/vests, & food. Thanx!

If we end up at Balcony maybe we could hit the Korean restaurant again.

WE'VE GOT WATER!

Post by Alicia »

Yippee! The Maury came up from last night's rain, & should still be runnable for Sat. That might help motivate even more folks to come pick up trash in the AM. We'll plan to run the Pass after the cookout, & we can also run an intermediate trip on the Middle Maury or below the P.O., if folks are interested.

So, as a reminder, please meet @ 10am @ the Rockbridge Baths P.O. Please do NOT park in front of or adjacent to the P.O. I'll have orange vests (or bring your own) & orange trash bags. Please bring gloves. FYI, the forecast is for mid-upper 40s, w/ 40-50% rain in the afternoon.

Thanks to all.
