Gauley Fest Sunday Glade Creek Trip
If there is interest, I will lead a trip on the Glade Creek section of the New on the Sunday of Gauley Fest.
This is a shorter section with a short (20-30 minute shuttle) and it's closer to Beckley, so if you have a long drive home, it's a great Sunday run.
It's fun and suitable for novice and intermediates; it also has several nice play spots, so even though you don't have to be advanced, an advanced boater can have some fun play.
We'll meet at Burnwood at 10:00 am on Sunday along with all the other trips.
If there isn't much interest, I'll probably run the Gorge instead with Dave's group. I'll be up Friday night and I'll be on the Gorge trip Saturday.

Which stretch of the New is this? The AW page does not mention it:

Can you provide put-in and take-out points please so we know for sure the run. Thanks Raymond.

Glade Creek is the section above the Prince/McCreery - Thurmond (Silo) run; it's described on the AW page as Sandstone - McCreery at
http://www.americanwhitewater.org/conte ... l_id_2416_
We will only do the lower half by putting in at Glade Creek on river left and taking out at Grandview Sandbar - river left about a mile above Prince.
The AW site states: "The most popular trip is from Glade Creek to the Grandview Sandbar and includes the two longest and biggest rapids of the entire section: Grassy Shoals and Quinnimont Rapids - Class III-"
Basically you head south from Fayetteville on Rt. 19 to Glen Jean, turn left and then take a quick right toward Prince (the putin for the Silo run). Once there, you drive along the river for several miles to the Glade Creek campground.
The III- rapids are fairly straightforward at these levels; the run is suitable for anyone planning to run the Surprise section. Also this section is used for instruction by some of the outfitters in WVA.
