Looking for paddle-mates

Post by davidhopkins »

I'm new to the Petersburg/Richmond area. I'll be here for the summer and am looking for someone to paddle with. I'm an intermediate paddler who has paddled the Yough and some other rivers in that area, but am still fairly new to the sport and am still working on a roll. Does anyone have any recommendations on what rivers and sections I should kayak? I'm available to paddle nearly all the time, weekday or weekend. I just need to get some time on the water to improve my skills.

Paddle Bud

You are welcome to team up with me and my mates. We have a diverse crew, some who can roll some who cannot, a couple who can handle the lower at these levels and higher a few that are newer that can only handle the upper.

I am hoping to go Friday after work (early release) let me know if you can make it.

What time and where are you meeting Friday. I might try to hook up with you if I can get out work early enough if you don't mind. It has been 6 months since I was on the river. Are you doing the LJ?

Friday sounds great. Let me know where and when and I'll be there. I'm looking forward to meeting some people and getting in the water here.

Nice! I sent an email to the others in my crew and none can make it Friday, but I want to go.

Let me know if you feel more comfortable doing the upper or would have more fun on the lower. With the water level at 4' I'm fine with either.

I am good to meet at 4PM possibly a little earlier, let me know what time works for you.

I'm comfortable with the lower at 4'. I ran it about 5 times last year however it has been a long time so I would be relying on you to follow the lines. 4 works for me as of now.

If y'all have room for one more, I would be interested in joining you if you are paddling tomorrow.

I can give the lower a shot. I did some III+ this spring in Ohiopyle and felt pretty good. It may be a challenge for me, but I like a good challenge. 4 p.m. will work fine and I'll be there a little early. Where will we meet?

I tried to find the takeout point in case anyone was down there, but had some difficulty after crossing the bridge. I'm sorry if anyone was down there waiting for me. I'll have to get some good directions before going down there next time. I'm available to paddle any time.

David,

If you can get out tomorrow, there is a strong group heading out at noon.

We meet at the takeout which is located on the northside of 14th St bridge (Mayo Bridge). If you can coming from the southside; after crossing the river, turn right just before you go through the floodwall. If coming from the north, then turn left as soon as you cross through the opening in the floodwall.

Just remember, the takeout is located on the northside of the river just downstream of the 14th St bridge.

Fwiw, I'm running my nephew down the lower james Sat. morning and will dropping off the shuttle vehicle at 14th around 10:00. I won't be able to help set shuttle, but you're welcome to join us for an earlier run (late morning) and I can help with shuttle after the run for the 12:00 crew.

bn
