Staunton River- Sunday July31

Post by Vertpaddler »

We will meet at Brookneal VGIF off Rt 501 at the Staunton River bridge at 10:00am to set shuttle. Hopefully we can pile as many boats and folks onto (and into) as few vehicles as possible and head off to Long Island and hope for a no shuttle paddle. If no one dies (inside family joke) my brother (who works at a funeral home) and others will magically transport our vehicles back to Brookneal while we paddle. Sorry guys, Papa Sue is on vacation and there will be no desserts this time. The river is low but there will be a release so we will have enough water. Beginners welcome. Join us to beat the heat.

Shorn and I would like to join you for this trip.
We'll be camping at James River State Park and will be at Brookneal before 10.

There are serious rumors of this turning into a dessert trip. Forget the diet for the day. See you on the river.

Kyle.....not sure if Ronnie or one of the other folks going will see your post before tomorrow or not. This section is a class I/II paddle. It does have some FW but is a nice paddle. Lots of folks paddle rec boats on it....I prefer something that leans a little more toward WW than a rec boat.....Steve

Kyle, come on down. We will be glad to have you join us.There are a couple of I-II rapids. There is nothing that you can't handle in a rec boat. The flat water sections are long enough that you may wish you have your rec boat if you bring your shorty play boat. I vote for the longer boat. Ronnie.

Sorry I didn't make it out either, with all the tstorms rolling through I didn't think it would be worth the drive if it just ended up storming out there. I def want to paddle this run sometime with someone that knows the lines. Hope you guys made it out and had a good day on the river.
