Balcony anyone?

Post by Wallace »

Saturday 3/17. Sometime in the afternoon. This is a feeler for level of interest. We're planning a trip out that way, and wouldn't mind seeing Balcony again, since it's been a while. If the water is right, I may even try the open boat. Post up if you're interested. We can hammer the time down later in the week.

Short answer, yes, interested.

Scant rains predicted suggest a nice level for next weekend.

Assuming rains don't amount to much and no wild WV hairs occur then again yes, and note OC-2 backup option is likely available.

Enjoying your OC enthusiasm,

Ken

I will probably be there, if nothing else comes up.

Would this be a good run for my beginner son who has only been on the river twice?

I haven't paddled Balcony in a while. I remember it being fairly friendly. First timers may want to have a look at the confluence rapid at the very beginning and at Balcony Falls. The James is a big, wide river so swims can be on the long side. Provided your son is prepared and dressed for swimming in cold water, I say "bring him on!"

Let's meet at the AT crossing take out at 1pm on Saturday 3/17. Don't forget to wear something green! Somebody please bring some Guiness!

It is looking likely we will be in for Balcony Falls. When are we meeting up for it?

1 pm at the bottom takeout. I'm nervous about crossing the tracks with an open boat.

Two of us are interested in Balcony Sat. We've inquired of the other possible group going as we'd prefer to start a bit earlier due to the forcast.

FYI

Thanks.
Grateful for the gift of some serious fun ...

Interested, too, but I'd prefer the earlier start as well. Let's see...

Further, is anyone departing from the Charlottesville area?

Thanks!

Looks like we will have plenty of people for two groups, and I imagine the OCT trip will be shifted to Balcony considering the lack of water in Rockbridge. I would like to meet up around 11 if that suits the earlier crowd.
