The Chilly Chili Paddle was a success . We had a few new people with us who are new members I believe . The scheduling of the upper James, upper/lower James, and lower James trips were right on the money . But I do believe that julesagogo will need to keep notes for next year?s paddle on directions from and to locations (just joking). Thank you all who put this Coastal?s trip on .

I had a great time in spite of myself. I don't think I've ever had a worse day on the river. Nothing worked but my crawl stroke. And that was put to a severe test. The great thing was, everytime I surfaced, there was a smiling face there to help me out. I still have all my gear, too. Thanks to the CYA for putting the paddle and the party together, and to all the folks who participated in the goat rope downtown. Happy New Year!
I also had a great day yesterday. Good company and good food make Gromit very happy! I'm glad I chickened out running the lower, but secretly would have liked to see Wallace's face and hear the expletives! Had I run it, I'm sure there was a high probability of someone hauling my carcass out of the river too!
Happy 2006!
It was indeed a fantastic way to bring in the New Year - I was very happy to meet y'all. A very welcoming bunch you all are - thanks for leading me down everything (especially Tom!).
I'll be driving through Richmond on my way up from Norfolk on Monday Jan 16th - a holiday for some of you - and I was wondering if I should stop in Richmond for a quickie If someone was interested in paddling that afternoon, given a good water level (not too low, not too high), please contact me at hscalliet@yahoo.com.
Also, Julie, please let me know if you were able to get some good pix of Ray or me or both. That would be swell. Thanks!
I look forward to seeing more of you soon - if anyone is coming up to DC, let us know and we'll be happy to take you out!
Thanks to everyone who did all of the hard work (cooking, planning, etc.). It really was a great way to ring in the New Year! A special thanks to Guy for letting us have it at his house.
Not only is he a gracious host, but it is a refreshingly novel experience to hang out with an adult who actually understands how his own electronic technology works.
Props to Greg Velzy, JROC, and all the volunteers who put together that new takeout downtown. The trip was great, despite the squeeze from my new drysuit gaskets on my cardiovascular system. I did hear a complaint about the cold. That when the sun is shining and the air is 55 degrees. Richmond in winter. I think balmy, subtropical.
