Go Fest/Safety for ACA Collegiate Race Series

Post by SteveEW »

I am coordinating safety volunteers for the ACA Collegiate Race series that is occurring in/around Roanoke on Saturday October 15.
If you are unfamiliar with this race, it is a National Championship downriver race for college students that is put on by the ACA. This year it is being hosted by Hollins University (shout out to Jon Guy Owens), and will be held on the Roanoke River. While there are not many difficult or dangerous rapids on the Roanoke River, the heat of competition can lead to swims that can then lead to the need for assistance.
Come out and join in the fun by giving these college kids support on the river as they stretch their competitive wings. Last year we even managed a informal volunteer race at the end of the day!
This competition occurs during and as part of GoFest, the Roanoke Valley's wildly popular outdoor festival. Coastals is going to have a booth that is being shared with the American Canoe Association. We also need volunteers to man this booth during the festival so we can pass out information and answer questions for potential club members! The booth will be hosting throwbag competitions with prizes, the medal ceremony for the race will be there, there are food and beer trucks at the festival, and there are all kinds of outdoor vendors there as well. Camping is available onsite, but if you would like to have quieter camping with showers, or a cabin with a kitchen I can help you with that as well.
Contact me here or at 540 556-2714 and let me know if you would like to be part of this amazing event!

Maybe. Let's talk this weekend.
