OCT - November 5th James River from Buchanan to Alpine
Come join us on this class I/II trip on the James in Bottetourt County, from Buchanan to Alpine.
Please note that the official calendar had this on Saturday, but we will be paddling on Sunday so that those who want to paddle Kevin's Balcony trip on Saturday can do so. Sorry for any confusion.
This friendly section of the James - sections 7 and 8 of the Upper James River Water Trail - is pretty at any time of year. I think with the dry summer and fall we've had that we won't have a lot of color, but it will still be pretty.
We'll meet at the public boat ramp next to Twin River Outfitters at 10:30 AM to set shuttle. Let me know if you are planning to come, either through reply to this post, or by phone at 434-444-zero one five seven.
This is beginner friendly, but it is fall. You should be prepared for both cooler air and cooler water. If it is cloudy and/or breezy, the air temps will affect you more than in warmer weather. For some this means wet suits or thicker hydroskins, but for others this means dry suits. Everyone is different, so please be prepared for the way your body responds in these conditions.

This trip is about 10 miles. The weather Sunday as of right now is mid 60's and cloudy to partly cloudy, with winds below 5 mph.
None of the James River gauges are reporting water temperature at this time, so the best I can give you today is historical average for mid-to-late October, which is mid-50's. If it helps, the nightly air temps are increasing this week from 40 to low 50's.
