OCT Maury Sat 12/29 - change to Tye

Post by Alicia »

Plan to bring out your new Xmas paddling toys on New Year's weekend!

Santa has brought plenty of water for Xmas, & may bring some more on Thurs 27th. So I expect we'll be able to paddle something on the Maury for the Sat 29th OCT. It's billed as Goshen Pass - assuming a good level, Ken would run that part as I'm still nursing a bum shoulder & would hope to join @ Indian Pools. So intermediate folks should consider coming out, too.

Of course, more details later in the week once we see what levels might be. In the meantime, have a wonderful holiday!

Chris & I are probably in for Intermediate laps below Indian Pool, but would also be down for Class III Creeks within a couple hrs of Roanoke.

Lee and I would like to join you on Indian Pools if the temps don’t drop too much more. Will watch the forum.

Well, Santa may be bringing too much of a good thing. Forecast here is for 1-2" of rain tonight through Friday afternoon, & there's a flood watch til Sat AM.

The ground is so saturated that it wouldn't take much to get the Maury too high. So it will likely be a Saturday morning decision on where to paddle. Please don't just show up.

Please watch this space.

Change to Tye

Post by Alicia »

The Maury is too high. Tye is a bit of a gamble as it is dropping, but this is the plan for now. Meet @ the AT foot bridge parking area @ 12 noon. Then if folks want to run the upper class 3 part, Ken will run a trip there, & I may join. If folks want to run below the foot bridge for a class 2 trip, we'll do that instead of or after the upper.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU'RE COMING, SO I CAN POST YOU IF PLANS CHANGE. ALSO CHECK BACK HERE IN THE MORNING.

I can’t go too far from home tomorrow, but if y’all end up doing the Tye (or something similarly close like the Piney) count me in. It does look like it is dropping out quickly. :( I’m happy with the Upper section or below the AT bridge.

Chris & i are a maybe. Keep us posted, but we'll be watching water levels on a few local creeks as well.

Still on for mtg @ Tye AT parking lot (normal T/O) @ noon. Level is dropping but hopefully will be low/ok.

Looks like we're going to check out Bullpasture with Tye as a back-up. Catch you next time if we don't see you today.

thanks for letting me know. I'd suggest scouting the big ledge as the hole is pretty juicy @ this level. Have fun.

Alicia,
Lee and I will join you for the lower Class 2 section of the Tye ( below the bridge) if you’re still going to do that. How long is the section that you will be doing? I’ve never done it.

good - yes, we'll still do that. But Ken & couple others (& maybe me) will do top section 1st, which takes 60-75 min. So we likely won't be doing the lower section until after that, if you want to come more like 1-ish. It's been years since we've done the lower section, so I don't remember how long it is. But should be reasonable, & worth checking out for an intermediate run. There are various T/O's.
