Rafting. Two of us are rafting the Lower Gorge, half day trip with ACE, Oak Hill, WV 25901 800.787.3982. The reservation is for Sunday, 9/5/21 at 2pm departure time, so you need to be there by 1pm.
If you are interested in joining us just call them; the reservation is under my name, John Festa.
Cheers.

I just looked at the gauge for the New River. I am not familiar with this section of the river as I have never paddled it. We were intending to paddle the upper sections of the gorge (the II/III sections), but it appears that the river is running higher than normal. We intended to come up whether we were going to paddle or not just to check out the New River Gorge National Park. If we don't paddle, we were going to bike and hike so I was wondering the group's opinion as to whether there will be trips going on this weekend. I want to know whether or not to lug our bikes with us.

Jamie,

The upper New is not the only option for non-gorge paddlers. Some of us are hoping to run the Cherry River (class II-III) if it is still running on Sat. See you there.

Jenny,
Thanks for the info...glad to know there are other rivers to paddle. We will probably bring our bikes anyway. There are a lot of cool places to bike.

Are we doing a pot luck at the Pavilion at Ray’s this weekend?

Hi friends, I am coming to NRG with a group on Sunday and Monday. Does anyone have extra space in a raft on Monday for my friend or I. She is a solid class II hard boater, but she + I are not quite ready for the lower New. Thanks for anyone who can point me in the right direction.

Instead of rafting, I'd be down to paddle the upper new on Monday if anyone else is! Please let me know if you're doing that!

Bill,
Ken & I are doing our own thing cooking in camp, but given the covid situation, won't be doing potluck. I've heard some are ordering carryout.

Gypsyking,
There will be morning dithers about river sections & levels each day. While I don't know about raft availability, I'd bet there will be folks doing novice/intermediate sections of the upper New each day. As Jenny said above, there is also a chance an intermediate run on the Cherry (or top Gauley?) might still be available on Sat. And for more advanced boaters, I'm watching Cranberry & upper Meadow in hopes they might still be in play. However, the smaller runs may well drop fast.
_________

Don't forget to pack some warm-ish clothes & river gear - showers & high of 71 on Sunday. But lovely cool nights for camping!

I'll be there Saturday thru Monday ... would like to paddle 2 of those days. Interested in intermediate runs if available ... no gorge, no IV's. Looking forward to joining you all. Will be my first NRR.
Grateful for the gift of some serious fun ...

Wow, Ms. Ida dumped a lot of rain in these watersheds. Comments from gauge geek prognosticators are invited, begged for, one might say.

I'm just now sitting down to try to study gauge things as I've been off in the mountains.

I expect that the New will be too high for my tastes for the entire weekend. Please feel free to disagree. It's high right now and there is a lot of flow in Virginia headed that way.

I have an expression I use, a "tweener" day, meaning when we're in-between the creeks being too low and the big rivers being too high. I hope that won't be our theme for this event.

Rafting may well be out for me. I'll check back in the morning.

Ideas? In the class II / III arena there is talk of the Cherry in the Gauley watershed. There are top Gauley runs in that category too but I haven't studied flows yet. Again, begging for beta.

In the class III / IV arena there is the Cranberry and maybe the Williams?

Regrouping,

Ken
