OCT Saturday, August 12 SF Shenandoah

I'm planning to paddle the Grove Hill to Newport section on Saturday. I've never paddled this section but have been wanting to cross it off the list for a long time.

It's an ~5.5 mile, class I'ish trip with close to half of it being flat water behind the Newport dam. We will need to portage around the dam. I understand that the portage trail is well marked and typically fairly well maintained.

The SF Shenandoah is very low right now, but still above canoe zero.

We'll meet at the Grove Hill DWR boating access on Grove Hill River Rd (Rt 650) just north of the town of Shenandoah at 10:30am to drop boats and then set shuttle.

Please let me know if you're coming and bring your exploratory spirit (assuming you haven't paddled this section).
