OCT: Saturday, March 8, Maury Rockbridge Baths

Post by Raymond »

The Maury is at a good level (with some rain forecast for Wednesday), so I’m hoping we will have a good level for Saturday, March 8. If so, we will run Rockbridge Baths to Copper Road; if the level doesn’t hold, I’ll most likely switch to the Balcony Falls section of the James. Check back Friday for confirmation.

Meet at 11:00 a.m. at the putin to set shuttle. Putin is Rockbridge Baths for the Maury; Locker Landing for Balcony.

Make sure you don’t park in the Post Office parking areas.

This is a novice/intermediate level trip. You must have cold weather paddling clothes for this trip.

Respond here or call/email if you plan to join us.

I'm interested. Looks like plenty of water but not too much. The gauge is showing a crest this morning (Thursday) at 3.7 feet USGS. We'll see how fast it drops. Anything in the three foot range is fun. It's bouncy but there's nothing particularly threatening if one is comfortable running it lower.

15 mph winds out of the NW don't bother me. I just ran it last weekend with 18 mph out of the W, gusts up to 40, and it wasn't a bother.

Cheers,

Ken,

Great. My notes show that you, Kurt, and I did it in 2019 at 3.32 in early March, so it should be similar to that.

I hope to come OC2 with Ken as I'm nursing some joint issues. (make him do all the hard work  )

Thanks for coordinating, Raymond, & having good water, no less!

Looks as if we'll have a good group. The water level looks good as well.

See everyone at 11 AM at the Rockbridge Baths Post Office (but not in the P.O. parking spots).
