Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming....WOW What a ride! . . . . . Trying to live up to this, Priceless. As long as you have good insurance!
Re: OCT New River Gorge for the Summer Gathering
Thanks for coordinating, Wade & Sejal.
Ken & I are maybe's. Watching the level. I'm also posting similar on Raymond's thread.
Did you know there is a low release on the Dries this weekend? We've never done it, have you?

I plan to be there Sat. and Sun.
The Dries would be cool to hit. I’ve done it once at a lower level (1200cfs, I think) and it was manageable to boat scout. Super beautiful and super easy shuttle!

Ken & Alicia, hope to paddle with you on the Gorge.
Savanna, will be great to see you and paddle.
New is at 1.15' and gages up stream look level for the most part.
Rain in the forecast but I don't think that will effect levels.
Meeting at Ray's 10am on Saturday and 9am on Sunday, to run shuttle.
I know Sejal wants to run the Dries, I could be interested, but I got people for the Gorge.
14 for both days (not necessarily the same 14) and 4 maybe's (Ken & Alicia are in the maybe's....but I'm hopeful)

Gorge is going up. But Hinton has leveled. Keep your fingers crossed.

NRG is at 2.46’. It just started a move up after going down all day.
Right now we’re talking small changes. Hinton looks like it’s going down slightly.
My “guess” is that we will either have 2.25’ to 2.5’ or a blowout.
Nothing else in the area is running natural flow.
The NRG Dries(Class 3-4) is supposed to be releasing this weekend. I have never run it but one of our paddlers has. That is a possibility.
In case of a blow out and no paddling, there are hikes in the area.
I’m leaving in a few to head to the NRG. 4 of our party are already there, hiking.
We will make decisions based on who comes and availability of runs at the time. I’m still hopeful for the Gorge.
Let me know what you’re plans are based on the info. Staying at Ray’s, tentative 10am on Saturday and 9am on Sunday.
Fayetteville, WV
Full of the arts and amazing opportunities. Nature, culture, and a great sense of community. It is a simple town with beautiful outdoor areas. The economy was dominated by the coal industry for many years but is now primarily tourism due to the national park and numerous things to do outdoors.
